Why This Apprenticeship Is Worth the Wait — The Differentiator

Unlike a typical internship, the SBI Apprentice programme is built as a genuine pathway into the bank's clerical cadre:

  • A stipend of ₹15,000 per month is available for the entire one-year training period and this amount is fixed and not based on performance.
  • A nationally recognised apprenticeship certificate under the Apprentices Act of 1961, supported by the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
  • In the SBI Junior Associate (Clerk) recruitment exercise, the notification issued by SBI makes it clear that candidates who successfully finish the apprenticeship are given bonus marks amounting to 2.5% of the total marks—that is, 5 marks out of 200—in the SBI Clerk Mains exam. While some of the other articles covering this matter give the exact figure, the majority only state that weightage applies without mentioning the specific number.
  • Actual hands-on experience obtained from working at a real SBI branch in relation to core banking operations—not just training carried out in the classroom.

It should be noted that the official notice makes it clear that "the involvement of apprentices does not ensure a position with the Bank". While the stipend and the certificate are guaranteed for one year, the clerk-recruitment weightage is merely an advantage in a competitive situation and not a guarantee of employment.

  6. Save the page with your roll number or print it since you'll need to refer to it when scheduling your LPT and document verification.

SBI Apprentice 2026: State-Wise Vacancy Distribution (Sample)

The proportionate notification of the 7,150 seats was carried out in all States and Union Territories. For reference, some of the larger allocations were:

State/UT Total Seats UR SC ST OBC EWS
Andhra Pradesh 709 296 113 49 191 70
Uttar Pradesh 561 234 117 05 150 55
Telangana 491 198 78 34 132 49
West Bengal 460 185 105 23 101 46
Tamil Nadu 396 143 75 03 106 39
Assam 368 164 25 44 99 36

The figures given here show the distribution of notified vacancies. You should check your individual selection status directly in the state-wise merit list PDF, as the final number of candidates selected depends on the merit within each state by category.

SBI Apprentice Cut-Off Marks 2026

The minimum qualifying marks for the individual sections are not published by SBI; instead, only an overall aggregate cut-off is released after the exam, with a 5% relaxation granted to candidates from the SC/ST/OBC/PwBD categories. Taking into account the exam pattern which consists of 100 marks over a period of 60 minutes and historical trends, estimates made by coaching institutes indicate the following ranges—these should be regarded as approximate and not official.

Category Estimated Cut-Off (Out of 100)
General/EWS 72–80
OBC 64–74
SC 62–70
ST 57–63

A reality check is that since the merit list is prepared on a state-wise and category-wise basis, the same raw score may qualify in one state but fail to qualify in another depending on the number of candidates and the number of vacancies in that state. Do not base your decision solely on a 'safe score'—instead, check your actual roll number in the PDF for the state in which you applied.

Local Language Test (LPT) — Rules & Exemption Explained

This is the stage at which most candidates become confused, and it is the main factor that sets this recruitment cycle apart.

  • The LPT verifies that you are able to read, write and speak the local language of the state/UT that you have applied for.
  • It is necessary to clear the LPT in order to be offered the apprenticeship, and candidates who fail it will not be offered the position even if they have a high rank in the written exam.
  • Rule on exemption: You will be fully exempt from having to take the LPT if you are able to provide your Class 10th or 12th mark sheet or certificate which shows the designated local language as one of the subjects that you studied.
  • Candidates who are not eligible for exemption have to take the LPT at a centre in the state for which they have applied, and they must pay for the travel themselves — the SBI does not cover the cost of travel for this stage.

Documents to Carry for LPT / Exemption Claim

  • Original Class 10th or 12th mark sheet showing the local language subject (for exemption)
  • SBI Apprentice Result printout with roll number
  • Valid photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Voter ID)
  • Category certificate, if applicable

SBI Apprentice Selection Process 2026: What Comes After the Result

  • The Local Language Test (LPT) is mandatory except in those cases where exemption is indicated on the 10th or 12th mark sheet.
  • Document Verification – the original certificates were checked in relation to your online application.
  • A medical examination to obtain basic fitness clearance in accordance with SBI standards.
  • The final letter regarding merit and engagement is issued once all the stages have been successfully cleared.
