The General stream includes the majority of the available places this cycle, making it the most competitive one but also the most accessible route for applicants seeking an MBA (Finance), or for those with a graduate or postgraduate qualification without a specific stream qualification. Streams such as Actuary and Rajbhasha have only a small number of spots — it's important to be aware of this before deciding to spend time preparing for a specialist stream that offers just one or two places.
PFRDA Grade A Eligibility Criteria 2026
Educational qualification depends entirely on the stream applied for:
- In the General Stream, graduation is offered, although those who hold a professional qualification—such as CA, MBA Finance, or a similar postgraduate degree—usually have a advantage since the PFRDA arranges the Phase II specialisation papers in this way.
- For the various specialized fields such as Finance & Accounts, IT, and Legal, a relevant professional degree or certification (specifically, CA or CFA in the case of Finance, B.Tech or MCA for IT, and LLB for Legal) as stated in the criteria for each stream in the official notification is required.
- For the Research and Actuary streams: a relevant postgraduate qualification or actuarial certification as specified.
It is also necessary for candidates to be computer literate and familiar with MS-Office (Word and Excel) – this is a definite requirement, not just a matter of formality, since it is verified at the document verification stage.
Age limit: 30 years at the latest as of 31 July 2026. The usual government relaxations apply in the cases of the SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen categories. One point to note is that candidates who fall within the OBC 'Creamy Layer' are not eligible for OBC reservation and have to apply in the UR/General category.
PFRDA Grade A Salary Structure 2026 — What Changed This Year
The headline change is that this cycle the PFRDA has increased the basic pay for Grade A officers from ₹44,500 to ₹62,500 a month. This represents a significant rise and is the principal reason why this recruitment is attracting more attention than in earlier PFRDA cycles.
The lowest monthly income figures on the scale range from ₹1.4 to ₹2.05 lakh, depending on the source and the various allowances (HRA, DA, and other perquisites differing according to the posting location). The exact amount you will receive in hand will depend on your city category and the deductions made; therefore, you should check the detailed breakdown in the official notification PDF rather than depend on a single figure that is circulating online.
The fact that working at the PFRDA places you in the same prestigious category as officers at SEBI, the RBI, and the IFSCA — India's other main regulators in the financial and pension sectors — is one of the reasons why competition for these 30 positions is so intense throughout each cycle.
PFRDA Grade A Phase 1-2 Exam Pattern 2026
Selection runs through three stages, and each one filters out a large chunk of applicants:
Phase I (Preliminary): There are two papers, each containing 100 marks. This year there has been one notable change – the number of Reasoning questions in Prelims Paper 1 has gone up to 30, as compared to earlier years. When using old PFRDA previous year questions for practice, you should take into account this change before concluding that the paper format is the same.
In Phase II (Mains) there are two papers each carrying 100 marks, the papers covering knowledge of the subject relevant to the stream as well as including English and general awareness components according to the stream applied for.
In Phase III (the interview), candidates who meet both the Phase I and Phase II cut-offs are interviewed.
For each incorrect answer in the relevant papers, negative marking is applied by deducting one-fourth of the marks that would have been awarded to that answer — a rule established by the PFRDA which targets candidates who make careless guesses in Phase I.
The final assessment is based on a ratio of 85:15 between the Phase II CBT and the interview — so your written results have much more influence than the interview, although a bad interview can still have a significant negative effect on an otherwise good Phase II score.
PFRDA Grade A Application Fee 2026
Candidates belonging to the General/OBC/EWS categories have to pay the standard application fee as announced for each stream (a separate fee applies for each stream if one is applying to more than one stream). The point worth noting is that all female candidates, together with those from the SC/ST/PwBD communities, are completely exempt from having to pay the application fee—a wider exemption than is generally available in most PSU or regulatory recruitment exercises, which usually limit exemption to SC/ST/PwBD candidates only.
Once a fee has been paid, it cannot be refunded under any circumstances, and if you are applying to more than one stream you must make separate applications together with separate fee payments.
