Prelims Exam Pattern
A single paper on General Knowledge.

Mains Exam Pattern
Includes a compulsory paper of General Hindi, two papers of General Studies, and one Optional Paper (Home Science, Psychology, Sociology, or LSW).
Selection Process
Based on a written examination. No interview.
Written Exam Pattern
Total of 6 papers, each of 1 hour duration and 100 marks.
- Compulsory Papers (4): General English (Qualifying), General Hindi (Qualifying), General Studies, General Engineering Science.
- Optional Papers (2): Based on Engineering discipline (e.g., Civil Engineering Paper I & II).
The merit list is prepared based on marks in General Studies, General Engineering Science, and the two Optional Papers (Total 400 Marks).
BPSC conducts various other recruitments. While the pattern for each is specific, a general structure is often followed.
- Assistant Prosecution Officer (APO): Prelims (GS, Law) and Mains (Law focused).
- Project Manager: Prelims (Indian Economy & Industry), Mains (GS, Hindi, English & Optional).
- Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI): Written test with GS and Automobile/Mechanical Engineering papers.
- Drug Inspector, MDO, Assistant Town Planner, etc.: Usually a written exam with a General Studies paper and a paper on the relevant technical/professional subject.
